What is Cupping?

Cups are placed on the skin and either left in one place for around 5 minutes or moved around. While there can be moments of discomfort if the muscles are tight, or if the vacuum is too strong, in general the sensation of cupping is  enjoyable. Much like massage, there are those who like a light touch and those who prefer a stronger sensation .The cups can be adjusted to your preferred level of comfort.

Cupping employs the use of negative pressure  to create a vacuum. Using gentle, controlled suction to open up muscle tissue and increase local circulation of blood and fluids. In Chinese medicine terms this results in the reduction of the stagnation of Qi or 'vital energy', which is viewed as causing pain and illness.

Cupping can leave temporary markings like bruises on the body. These should be painless and  disappear within a week. They can look unusual and be a talking point it is probably best to avoid cupping in areas which may be exposed if you have a posh frock to wear!
